1. General

These terms & conditions govern The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd and your access & use of www.tatamishop.com (hereinafter “website”); By using this website and purchasing from The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms & conditions, including any additional guidelines or rules applicable to specific services or products that may be posted by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to change & amend these terms & conditions at any point in time without prior notice. Your continued use of services provided by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd following any changes to this Agreement constitutes your acceptance of such changes.

 

 

2. Products

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to edit the specifications of products (with reference only to goods sold/retailed by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd) & services. Actual product colours may differ slightly from those on display or shown on the website. The dimensions of products that are handmade using natural materials may vary for each piece. Products handmade with natural Igusa rushes (from Kumamoto prefecture) have a unique grassy fragrance. The strength of this fragrance is strongest when the product is new. Due to the organic characteristics of the materials (stated above), any blemishes or variation in colour tones/hues is purely natural & is not in direct reflection of the quality of the materials (stated above) used. Ageing & use will also affect the colour & texture of products. These natural occurrences shall not be deemed as defects. 

 

3. Prices & Payment Methods

All products listed on this website are subject to availability. Prices are listed in Singapore Dollars (SGD) & are subject to amendments without notice. Payment modes accepted are PayPal, bank transfer & cheque. Please make all cheques payable to “The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd”. Customers must pay all the necessary payment processing fees applicable to the relevant payment methods. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will process your order as soon as possible when the full payment of your order is received. 

All prices stated on the website and in this context are in Singapore dollars. All prices stated on the website and in this context are inclusive of Goods & Services Tax (GST). Our self-collection is strictly at our showroom and we do have any other showrooms or collection places anywhere else.

In the event that payment is not received within 30 days of delivery or pick-up, a late payment fee of 5% of the total invoiced amount per 30-day period will be applied until payment is made in full. 

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to pursue legal action if the balance payment for a purchase is not made within 30 days of delivery or collection. Failure to make the required payment within the specified time frame may result in The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd seeking remedies available under applicable laws, which may include, but are not limited to, filing a lawsuit to recover the outstanding balance, as well as associated costs and legal fees.

 

4. Accepting of Orders

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd may not be able to accept & therefore, must cancel certain orders. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject or cancel any order for any reason. Situations that may result in orders being cancelled include: – limitations on stock quantities available for purchase, inaccuracies or errors in product or pricing data, or issues identified by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd credit & scam avoidance representatives. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd may require further verifications or information before accepting any order. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will contact you if all or any portion of your order is cancelled or if additional data is required to accept your order.

 

Both parties agree that, after order dispatch, transportation is the sole responsibility of the third-party logistics or freight company. During this stage, full ownership of the product(s) belongs to the buyer; all relevant & associated liability & risks during transportation shall be borne by the buyer.

 

5. Transfer of Title

By placing an order on this site, you authorize The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd to engage third-party shipping/logistics/delivery services on your behalf. The title to the products in your order will be transferred to you when the products leave our storage facilities & are delivered to the courier/delivery representative/s for delivery to an address designated by you in the order. All liabilities & risks to the products will also be transferred to you at that time.

 

6. Warranty & Service

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd makes no warranties of any kind (express or implied), including, but not limited to, fitness for a particular purpose, data accuracy, operation of the site, content, materials, or products & services mentioned on this site.

 

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd’s annual free basic Tatami cleaning service is solely limited to Tatami products purchased from The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd. This service only applies to Tatami products that are sent to The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd service centre at our showroom. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to reject & not service any product that is not recognized as a product/s purchased from The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd is not liable to service or repair damages resulting from negligence &/or wear & tear.  You may be required to provide The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd with photos & pictures of existing products & their conditions before The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd is able to offer any service advice. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd’s annual free basic Tatami cleaning service is solely limited to customers of The Tatami Shop Pte Lrd who have fully paid for the Tatami products they have ownership of. 

 

Charges apply to requests for repairs, transportation & on-site Tatami assessment &/or cleaning services. Please refer to the “Annual Services” section for more information.

 

7. Defects

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will not be liable for any replacement for any wear & tear, misuse & abuse of products by the customer e.g. cuts, bites, scratch, fold marks, splits & indentations. Avoid contact with items/liquids that causes permanent stains/damage on The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd products, such items include, but are not limited to: – hair dyes, permanent markers, stationaries like crayons or paint, red wine, high heat, open flame & oil-based products. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd is also not liable to replace or refund goods due to regret of purchase, mould or damages caused by negligence & the lack of care rendered upon the products purchased by the customer. This list is not exhaustive. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd has the right to request proof to support. The Tatami Shop Pte Lrd is not liable to replace or refund goods which have not been fully paid for by the customer.

 

If you receive a product with obvious flaws seen from the packaging, you have the option to not accept it from our delivery personnel. Whenever signing for a package, you or your representative are stating that you receive the product in good condition.

 

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will not be liable to you for any loss of profits, administrative inconvenience, disappointment, indirect or consequential loss or damages arising out of any problem in relation to the goods. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd shall have no liability to compensate you via monetary payment to you by way of compensation.

 

8. Exchange & Return Policy

If you receive a damaged product from The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd, you may exchange it for an equal piece. Exchanges will be done if the item was rejected on the spot during the delivery due to any damages, or within 24 hours after receiving the delivery. It is compulsory that The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd receives images of the damage/s before doing the replacement. The Tatami Shop Pte Lrd is not liable to replace or refund goods which have not been fully paid for.

 

If you receive an incorrect item, please contact The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd immediately. The correct item will be sent to you in a timely manner & arrangements will be made by us for the return of the incorrect product.

 

The period of exchange or returns acceptable will be within 3 days from the day the order gets dispatched from our warehouse. The client is required to bring the items to the showroom if they wish to have them exchanged. Returned goods should be unused, clean and undamaged, in original tags and packaging & exchange or refund will only be granted if the items have met these standards. Sale items are not exchangeable nor returnable. Should the refund be issued, there will be an admin charge of 15% of the total value of the invoice. All delivery charges should be absorbed by the client. Should the client require our services, there will be a delivery fee charge. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to reject any returns if the item does not meet all of the above conditions and if its no longer in an acceptable condition due to wear and tear, misuse, abnormal usage, etc. Exchange items should be of the same value. We will refund the purchase price of the relevant product(s) returned to us excluding delivery & administrative charges (if any). Refunds will be given in the same form as the payment for the original purchase within 30 working days. 

Clients are not entitled to exchanges or refunds if:

  • The client had damaged the item.
  • The client had misused the item and caused the fault.
  • The client had tried to repair the item himself or had someone else try to repair it, and in the process damaged it.
  • The client had changed his mind and no longer wanted the item.
  • The fault is due to wear and tear.
  • The client had been told about the fault before he bought the item.
  • Clients who have bought a second-hand product of The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd from external sources or previous clients are not entitled to any remedies. 

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd does not practice item trade-in arrangements as The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd products are all personal use items.

 

9. Specially Made Items

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd offers the option to place custom orders (hereinafter “special order”) for specially designed Tatami and Solid Wood items. Special orders may include but are not limited to, specially made Tatami furnishings, custom Tatami floorboards, and custom sized Solid Wood platform beds. To initiate a special order, you must provide detailed specifications, requirements, and other relevant information requested by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd. 

9a) Measurements and Specifications

When making a special order, it is your responsibility to provide accurate and precise measurements as requested by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd may provide guidance or instructions on how to measure correctly, but ultimately, the accuracy of the measurements provided rests with you. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd is not required to but may choose to provide a site measurement to ensure the accuracy of dimensions. 

You understand and acknowledge that if a site measurement is not conducted, The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will rely on the detailed specifications and measurements provided by you for the special order. It is essential to review and verify all specifications before submitting them to The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd shall not be responsible for any errors, inaccuracies, or discrepancies in the detailed specifications provided by you. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd shall not be held liable or responsible for any Custom Order that does not meet your expectations due to inaccurate measurements and is not obligated to provide any replacement, refund, or price-offset.

9b) Deposit and Payment

To proceed with a special order, you are required to make a non-refundable deposit equal to 50% of the total quoted price (“Deposit”). The Deposit is payable at the time of placing the special order. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will not commence work on the special order until the Deposit has been received.

The remaining balance of the total quoted price, including any applicable taxes, shipping, or additional charges, must be paid in full upon delivery of the special order. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to pursue legal action if the balance payment for the special order is not made within 20 days of delivery or collection. Failure to make the required payment within the specified time frame may result in The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd seeking remedies available under applicable laws, which may include, but are not limited to, filing a lawsuit to recover the outstanding balance, as well as associated costs and legal fees.

9c) Cancellations and Refunds

Cancellation by You: If you decide to cancel a special order after the Deposit has been made, the Deposit will be forfeited and non-refundable. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to retain the Deposit to cover any costs, materials, or labor already incurred in relation to the special order.

Cancellation by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd: The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to cancel a special order in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as unavailability of materials or production constraints. In such cases, The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will notify you promptly and provide alternative options to continue the special order. If you choose not to continue the order in the case of a cancellation by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd, you will be provided with a full refund of your deposit.

Non-Compliance with Specifications: If the special order does not meet the specifications agreed upon, you must notify The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd within three days from receipt of the completed order. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will review the concern and, if valid, may offer to rectify the issue or provide an appropriate refund or exchange. As part of the review process, The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd may require a verification process. This verification process may include but is not limited to; an on-site measurement, the item being returned for a quality assurance check, and a physical review of the product. If you choose not to comply with the verification process, you acknowledge and accept that by doing so, you forfeit your right to any product exchanges or refunds. The verification process is essential to accurately assess the non-compliance of the special order with the specified requirements and to determine appropriate actions for resolution. By refusing to participate in the verification process, you acknowledge that The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd cannot adequately address your concerns or provide remedies such as exchanges or refunds.

10. Lead Time

Items ordered may not arrive on the same day due to differing fabrication lead times for our handmade products. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will contact you to make the arrangements once the item has arrived in Singapore.

 

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd does not guarantee at any time a certain delivery date or time frame for the delivery of any product or order. Any listed time for shipping is an estimate only.

 

For orders with deadlines, please order well in advance. Additional express shipment charges apply for all urgent/early ship requests. Additional express charges also apply for all urgent/early woodwork installation requests.

 

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will not be liable for the delay in delivery or shipment lead time if you decide to make any changes to your orders as our handmade Tatami are limited edition & come in limited quantities & fabric selections.

 

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd will not be liable to you for any delay or failure to deliver the goods ordered due to unforeseen circumstances defined as Acts of God including, without limitation, breakdown of systems or networks, vehicle breakdown, last-minute change in orders, disasters or accidents.

 

11. Cancellation Policy

In the event that you cancel your order when your order has already been dispatched from our stock holding facility, you will be responsible for all delivery & administrative costs. Any refunds will be given in the same form as the payment for the original purchase within 30 working days, excluding the delivery & administrative costs.

 

12. Copyrights

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd furniture names & logos, designs of products & all related product & service names are the trademarks or intellectual property of The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd. Access to this site does not permit anyone to use any name, logo, content or photo in any manner.

You may not use, reproduce, duplicate, amend, convey, display, circulate, retail, license, publicly perform, distribute or commercially exploit any of the content or otherwise utilize any of the content in a way not permitted by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd, without its express prior written consent.

 

13. Privacy & Respectful Conduct

Any comments, suggestions, ideas, reviews, testimonials, images of your Tatami & other submissions that you send to us through the site, or by email, mail, telephone, at our stores or in any social media platforms through us are provided on a non-confidential basis. By submitting your testimonials or reviews, you are granting us permission to repost, distribute, edit, share with our users & community, and display our artworks, on posters & marketing collaterals.

 

You agree that no comments or testimonials will violate any right of any third party. You further agree that no part of any comments or testimonials will be unlawful, abusive or offensive. You are solely responsible for your comments & testimonials. The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd reserves the right to monitor, modify or delete any of these comments or testimonials.

 

By accessing this site, you also consent not to use the site to post or transmit any offensive, harmful, unlawful, threatening, defamatory, obscene, abusive, hateful, profane material or any material that would be considered a criminal offence or would violate the law.

 

You accept and acknowledge that you are fully informed of the following:

  • Company employees have the right to work in a safe and non-abusive environment. 
  • Customers who display inappropriate behaviour towards our staff or fail to provide a safe working environment will not be entertained and access to services shall be voided/authorities will be informed. 
  • Any disturbance like kicking/mishandling towards products is not allowed and you will be asked to leave the premise immediately.
  • No photography or videography is allowed of our employees and/or products unless granted permission.
  • No photography/videography is allowed in the showroom. You are not allowed to take photographs & videos of the showroom and of the products.

 

14. Delivery, Assembly & Installation

Customers accept & acknowledge that they are fully informed of the following:

The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd does not guarantee at any time a certain delivery date or time frame for delivery for any product or order. Any listed time for shipping is an estimate only. For orders with deadlines, please order well in advance. Additional express shipment charges apply for all urgent/early shipment requests. Additional express charges also apply for all urgent/early woodwork installation requests.

 

The minimum fabrication lead time required for woodwork is dependent on the order type and the client is to confirm these details with the Tatami team before purchasing their order. The lead time for the project/ order starts from the time of order confirmation and along with the final site measurement conducted by the Tatami team.

 

NATURAL HANDCRAFTED IGUSA TATAMI/BAMBOO/SOLID PLYWOOD WITH VENEER FINISH PRODUCTS/STRUCTURES CHARACTERISTICS (THESE EXAMPLES ARE NOT EXHAUSTIVE)

 

Tatami which is hand-finished with Igusa rushes has a unique grassy fragrance. The strength of this fragrance is strongest when Tatami is new. Due to the organic characteristics of the materials (stated above), any blemishes or variation in colour tones/hues is purely natural & is not in direct reflection of the quality of the materials (stated above) used. Every batch of veneer, solid plywood, timber & other materials has variations. Ageing & use will also affect the colour & texture of your platform. This applies to all our handcrafted Tatami furnishings. These natural occurrences shall not be deemed as defects and will not warrant a refund or an exchange. 

 

FINISHING & WORKMANSHIP

 

Woodwork may not have full or any finish on certain surfaces & parts of the structures, such as the bases of platforms, the backs of cabinets & shelves, the tops of wardrobes, the bottoms of drawers, bed slats & steps. These shall in no way be deemed as defective finishes. These examples are not exhaustive. These occurrences shall not be deemed as defects and will not warrant a refund or an exchange. 

 

AMENDMENTS & ALTERATIONS

 

Your project is as important to the company (The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd) as it is to you. Please take the time to check your copy of the scope of work carefully & let us know as soon as possible of any changes. It is the customers’ responsibility to advise The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd of alterations to the agreed scope of works.

 

Details pertaining to the scope of works may not be amended orally, but only by an instrument in writing or print duly executed by all parties hereto. We will always try our best to accommodate alterations but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to make alterations at short notice (30 days prior to the said installation date). Alterations may affect the cost of your project & the balance payment will be adjusted accordingly. Amendments will be fulfilled only upon written acknowledgement & confirmation of the changes by The Tatami Shop Pte Ltd.
