Q. What if I spill any beverages or drop food on my Tatami furnishings?

A: Soak up any excess liquids from the Tatami mat using a clean dry cloth. Fill a pail of water and follow the "General Cleaning" guide to clean your Tatami mat. Please remember to air it for 60 minutes

Q. How can I reduce the natural scent of my Tatami furnishing?

A: Add one part of vinegar to five parts water inside a small pail. Soak a clean cloth in the solution, rinse dry and wipe on the affected area.

Optional: Spraying a thin layer of Lysol onto the Tatami after cleaning.

 

Q. I am buying Tatami for my baby, will it be a problem if my baby pees or vomit on it Tatami?

A: Not at all, because our Tatami furnishings have water resistant properties. Just follow the steps below:

1. Clean up any excess pee or vomit using dry cloth. Dilute 1/4 cup vinegar to 3 cups water into a pail; proceed to wipe on affected area. Ventilate for an hour to allow any odor to dissipate.

2. Tatami Home Care Kit

If you have purchase our Tatami Home Care Kit, you can refer to your guide for best maintenance. Below are the 4 steps for cleaning and moisturizing your Tatami:

Step 1. Vacuum / Brush
Gently brush or vacuum along the weavings of your Igusa rush mat to remove any surface particles.

Step 2. Mix Both Solution
Pour equal portions of ‘Cool Wash’ and “Zesty Care” soluion together into the spray bottle according to the levels indicated. Shake well before use.

For each Sofa / Mattress or Carpet - Level 2
For each Mat Set / Pillow & Cushion - Half of level 2

Step 3. Clean and Refresh
Spray the mixture onto your Tatami mat evenly. Wipe your Tatami gently along the weaving using a clean damp cloth. Please remember to wipe on both sides of your Tatami furnishings. You can wipe the fabric in the same manner for soft furnishings and floorings but do not spray the mixture on the fabric, this will help to protect your Tatami items until the next maintenance.

Step 4. Ventilate
Stand your Tatami up on its side or prop it up against the wall and allow it to ventilate in an airy atmosphere for at least 60 minutes. (Caring for your Tatami items should be done on a regular basis and we recommend that you care for your Tatami items at “least once a week.)


3. If you find the DIY method is not sufficient, you can bring back to our head office for servicing.

 

Q. How do I care for the fabric?

A: All our Tatami furnishings are finished with fine Italian synthetic silk and are more durable for daily use. Protect the fabric monthly with a fine mist layer of Scotchguard Fabric Upholstery Protector. Use a clean, rinsed damp cloth with a bit of laundry stain remover or carpet foam cleanser to remove stains.

 

Q: My Tatami is moldy, what can I do about it?

A: Your Tatami mats, like leather product are made using a natural material. Therefore, in the humid conditions in Singapore, there is a possibility of your Tatami mat growing moldy especially if it is not being used regularly; or stored in an area with very little ventilation. Follow the steps outlined below to combat your Tatami mat.

Please use the following method:

Vinegar Solution

1. Dilute one part of white vinegar to 5 parts of water.

2. Soak a clean cloth in the solution, rinse dry & wipe along the weave of your Tatami mat.

3. Repeat this cleaning process twice and allow to air for 60 minutes. If mold still persist, you may bring your Tatami down to our Tatami Care office.

4. Allow to air for 60 minutes.
